Parity Innovations Co. Ltd. is working on the research and development of a next-generation imaging technology called "floating images”. The imaging device “Dihedral Corner Reflector Array (DCRA)” can project floating images into the air without the need to use special glasses, it works just by placing it there.

The floating image of the DCRA is visible in the air regardless of the distance and the direction in which the image is observed. It is seen in a fixed position, thus there is a presence like a real object.

In addition, as an application of the DCRA, by combining it with an application that responds to sensors sensing the position information of the finger, it is possible to touch and manipulate the floating image. We are exhibiting such a “Floating Touch Display”. You have now the chance to experience this futuristic display technology, which feels like something out of the world of SF movies.

Optical imaging device "Dihedral Corner Reflector Array (DCRA)"

A Dihedral Corner Reflector Array (DCRA) is produced by using the latest nanotechnology processes. It is a floating image display device having a special fine pattern. Its principle is surprisingly simple: it works by using light reflected twice by pairs of vertical mirrors, so the rays are focused to points in the air, forming an aerial image.

However, this device requires a linear precision better than one-thousandth millimeter, and below 0.1 minutes of angular precision. Also, to remove unnecessary light, a variety of technologies and know-how need to be developed to improve the visibility of the floating image. By our advanced optical design techniques and innovative research capabilities, Parity Innovations has succeeded in developing the first optical resin-based DCRA device in the world.

As you can see, the floating image by DCRA is visible solidly in the air regardless of the distance and the direction in which the image is viewed, just like a real object. Conventional floating images had distortion, but the floating image of DCRA is undistorted.

In addition, we need only a very simple setting to create a floating image, by putting a display or an object under the DCRA. Anything can be projected as an aerial image. Because of this, it is suitable for aerial video advertising and entertainment, art and interior decoration.
