Force Visualizing Parallel Bar( FOVI-Bar )

Locomotive syndrome means being restricted in one’s ability to walk or lead a daily life owing to a dysfunction in one or more parts of a locomotive system – muscles, bones, and joints, etc. The dysfunction in the parts of the locomotive system occur with advancing age, however an appropriate locomotive training can prevent the locomotive syndrome and extend healthy life expectancy.
For the locomotive training, visualizing reaction forces of hands and feet helps elderly to understand one’s own movements. In particular, standing on one leg with placing hands on a table, the reaction forces of hands and feet are visualized, thus it is expected that learners can increase the reaction forces of feet and decrease one of hands. Therefore, device visualizing the reaction forces of the hands and feet in real-time is developed. This developed device consists a color-depth sensor and a parallel bar mounted force sensors.
Joint positions of entire body and reaction forces of the hands are obtained using the color-depth sensor and the force sensors, respectively. Dynamic data of the entire body can be estimated using Generalized Zero Moment Point (GZMP) based on the time-series data of the joint positions. GZMP, a criterion for humanoid robots, shows a representative point of the reaction forces of each foot. Thus, the reaction forces of each foot can be estimated based on the proportion of distances between the positions of the ZMP and each foot. The volume of the each reaction force is presented as length of bars, and it overlap with color images of learner.
