Smart Innovation - Creating a prosperous lifestyle and society

CEATEC JAPAN 2011 Recent Trend

At CEATEC JAPAN 2011, which marked its 12th year, 586 companies and organizations provided exhibitions demonstrating how the IT and electronics industries could contribute to Japan's post-disaster recovery.
The 172,137 people who visited CEATEC JAPAN over the five day period from October 4th (Tues.) to October 8th (Sat.) were able to experience the latest in cutting-edge IT and electronics.
Furthermore, this year's exhibition promoted the new merits of a variety of goods and services surrounding our dayto-day lives, such as homes, cars and information appliances, created through cooperation between IT and electronics.
In addition to the 2011 exhibition theme of "Smart Innovation - Cutting-edge technologies to create the future", we decided on a promotional slogan of a "Safe and Secure Smart Society Proposed by the IT and Electronics Industries" in order to support speedy recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and to promote the strength of Japan through the combined efforts of these industries. In addition, with the cooperation of exhibitors, we strengthened safety measures for this exhibition so that visitors could tour the event with peace of mind.
"CEATEC JAPAN" and "Tokyo Motor Show" teamed up to jointly communicate a message of recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Under the title of "Team Technology Japan", these two flagship exhibitions of the IT / electronics industry and automotive industry promoted the strength of monozukuri (Japanese style total manufacturing) to industries and markets at home and abroad.

The establishment of energy as a CEATEC JAPAN exhibition category was the most significant trend at this year's event. While companies and R&D organizations involved in energy-related business had previously been proactive in giving exhibitions on this subject, this year saw an unprecedented increase in momentum. In addition, exhibits demonstrating cooperation between "energy-creating" and "energy-saving" showed how the relationship between energy creators and users had become closely interlocked.

At the "Smart Community Innovation 2011" special exhibition, 80 companies and organizations from all industries associated with IT and electronics exhibited a large number of cutting-edge energy-saving, energy-storage, and energy-creating technologies, which people have become increasingly aware of since the disaster.

At the Digital Network Stage, high-quality and high-resolution 4K as well as 8K displays, which are set to take over from HDTV, made an appearance together with 3D TVs. Numerous new technologies and services that make use of tablet terminals and smartphones were exhibited. Furthermore, a new broadcasting service created by a fusion between broadcasting and communications was promoted as a new movement driven by advances in IT and electronics.

At the Electronic Components, Devices & Industrial Equipment Stage, components that support new sectors such as energy-saving, energy-creating and healthcare could be seen as well as sophisticated components for home appliances and cars.

Marking its second year, the ICT Suite/Electronics Suite hosted the Theme Plaza, which provides both seminars and exhibition booths, as an "initiative to realize more active BtoB-based business creation". Plazas such as the "Cloud Computing Plaza", the "NE Theater" and the "FPGA/PLD Plaza" were located in the Suite area, where companies and organizations provided exhibits.

On the final day of the exhibition (Saturday 8th October), entrance was free and this year again saw the visit of many budding young engineers to the "Juniors & Kids Electronics Workshop" and the "Robot Programming Workshop". The serious expression on the children's faces as they tackled each and every task showed that we have some potential leaders of industrial development on our hands.
