Nissan Motors' awareness on environmental issues with Eco-drive training session and ECO Pedal
Being the only automotive manufacturer to exhibit at the show, Nissan Motors is serving its role as a car manufacturer, showing integration with next generation digital products and the way of future will be
Drivers will recognize one's driving habits through Eco-drive training session
Eco-drive training is being held at a special driving course setup at CEATEC's outdoor pavilion. The company's professional test drivers, who are said to have "god's feet", will be providing tips in economical driving. Driving data of before and after training will be taken that allows the driver to see his driving habits on smoothness of fuel consumption and acceleration as well as pedaling on graphs and figures. Two TIDA models, one of Nissan's popular compact cars, will be used at the training, which lasts for a 30 minutes per trainee. This limits to 20 trainees a day but a trainee can broaden Eco-driving habits and awareness to his friends and colleagues.Asked one of the visitors who took the course, and he commented "The trainer taught me a proper driving technique for economical driving based on my driving habit data. After the training, it really taught me to be aware of fuel consumption and acceleration towards eco driving."
After the training, drivers will be provided with a certificate of completion with a detailed record of driving, something a driver can brag a little.
World's first ECO Pedal will propel drivers to perform eco driving at ease
At the same driving course, drivers can also experience ECO Pedal released in August 2008By increasing reaction force on the pedal (making it heavier), the ECO Pedal is designed to actively prevent drivers from excessively accelerating the vehicle while driving to save on fuel consumption. Sensory information from both the foot and eyes will work in combination to ensure more economical driving. Such aid to notifying the driver of the fuel consumption status is first in the world.
Acceleration of more than a certain extent leads to excessive fuel consumption. The system first analyzes the data calculated from engine's fuel consumption rate and transmission rate of the automatic transmission and immediately puts a bit of force onto the acceleration pedal. In addition, it notifies the driver the fuel consumption status through different colors and blinking of the lamp, sending information to both the foot and eyes to support the driver with more economical driving.
The ECO Pedal was developed by Nissan inside its mid-term environmental action plan Nissan Green Program 2010 and is expected to be equipped on new models starting from 2009, aiming to reduce emission of CO2 through the system. B
Introduced an Intelligent Key-equipped Mobile Phone released in September 2008
At Nissan Motor booth, an intelligent key-equipped mobile phone that combines popular intelligent key used on many of Nissan vehicles for its high convenience with mobile phone is being demonstrated. Working prototypes are available to get a feel of the mobile phone, which was co-developed with NTT DOCOMO and Sharp Corporation.Actions such as opening/closing of the door and start/stop the engine is possible so long as the user have the mobile phone in close vicinity like in a shirt pocket. Nissan is currently studying on new functions for the future using the display function of the mobile phone to display system operational history, destination setup reservation, parking position. The company is targeting to commercialize such products early stage of the next fiscal year aiming to improve user convenience and to put practical use of mobile phones through its advancement in the future.
Also, at Nissan Motor's outdoor booth, self-moving robot called Biomimetic Robot Car (BR23C) is on display. This type of products is called car-robotics, which is a technology utilizing an obstacle-avoidance behavior of insects specifically bees, aiming for the realization of anti-collision vehicle. The demonstration with actual moving robot was drawing attention from the visitors.
