For the 3D Internet World!
3D Virtual Space Server Software - '3Di OpenSim' Standard Version from 3Di Inc.

Developing superior products for 3D internet solutions, 3Di Inc has developed the 3Di OpenSim standard version virtual space server, the world's first commercial server based on the open source 'OpenSim' software developed by technologists from all over the world. Due for release this month, visitors to CEATEC JAPAN are now experiencing this next-generation, internet 3D virtual world.

The next internet technology revolution - "3D"

On October 1st, the same day as the 3Di OpenSim Standard Version was released, NGI and 3Di Representative Director and CEO Satoshi Koike held a press conference at CEATEC JAPAN and talked about the outlook for the 3D internet business: "In 1992, with the introduction of the web browser 'Mosaic,' people became able to view 2 dimensional home pages across the internet. The next internet technological revolution is making the internet world seem even more real, and easier to use with the shift to 3D. According Gartner Research (US), 70% of all corporate web-based services will be transformed to Virtual 3D by the year 2012.
Existing metaverses are already offering 3D virtual services for members. However what have been closed services limited to memberships and those related computers will naturally spread throughout the internet and offer the even more realistic 3D virtual world for anyone to experience. The 3Di OpenSim release is pioneering this revolution.
The world's top level IT companies are also expected to shift to 3D, and are already setting up a variety of investments and support systems. That's because in the current state of the IT industry, conventional performance limitations are being reached.
The spread of household and personal computers has saturated the market for CPU and microchip manufactures. And since the same goes for server and storage manufactures, we expect a shift to a demand for more advanced and larger capacity servers. Further, as the next-generation 'NGN' high-speed communications proposed by NTT and others is introduced, the emergence of services relating to these advanced data demands is inevitable.
As all internet space moves closer to 3D virtual conversion, there will be a great surge in demand for replacement equipment, and this will reinvigorate the world IT market."

The 3D world with 3Di OpenSim

The main feature of 3Di OpenSim is that it gives companies the opportunity to set up a virtual server easily and at low-cost. At CEATEC JAPAN we are demonstrating an educational service in virtual space designed for children, featuring cute, animation-like avatars as well as a real-estate model home featuring real living rooms and real bedrooms in 3D virtual space.
The children's demonstration gives you the feeling that you have become your favorite animation character while you enjoy your lessons. The real estate demonstration let's you experience the atmosphere in a real house while virtually 'walking' through it, and you can jump to change views and see over walls into other rooms.
3Di's CTO Taku Kamata says: '3D virtual shopping will give customers the feeling of actually being in a store, enjoying the shopping atmosphere while perusing the products on the shelves, and at the same time provide for easy store and user management through collection of marketing data describing details about product customers are viewing and customer movements throughout the store.
Our company continues to develop 3D virtual space viewer plug-ins for existing browsers, NGN compatibility and large-scale server clustering functions for users.
