Ralink announces Industry Leading Video Over Wi-Fi Technology at CEATEC Japan

Chiba, Japan, October 2, 2008 - Ralink Technology Corporation, a leading developer of 802.11x chips, announced today that it will be demonstrating its industry leading Video over Wi-Fi Technology at CEATEC Japan.

The holy grail of media distribution in the home is the delivery of Video over Wi-Fi. Ralink implements several technologies to improve the reliability and increase the range of Video over WiFi. The first is WiFi Multimedia (WMM) quality of service. Ralink's chipsets automatically identify video packets and prioritize their transmission to ensure the highest quality playback. Secondly, Ralink's solutions convert multicast packets to unicast packets over the wireless link to significantly decrease packet error rates. Ralink WiFi chips also employ proprietary DSP algorithms that add 3dB of gain to its receivers. These are just a few of the technologies implemented in Ralink Wi-Fi chips for Video over Wi-Fi.

At CEATEC booth 2A25, Ralink will be displaying all of the latest 802.11n WiFi products and leading the way to the future of Wi-Fi, where high performance, green technology initiatives and rock solid video performance co-exist.

Ralink Demonstrates Industry Leading Green WiFi Solutions at CEATEC Japan 2008

Ralink Technology, a leading developer of 802.11x chips, announced today that it will be demonstrating its industry leading Wi-Fi solutions at CEATEC Japan. Located in 2A25 Ralink's booth will showcase the latest in 802.11n technology, featuring Ralink's Green technology initiatives.

"We are proud to present our latest single chip AP, router and client Wi-Fi solutions this year at CEATEC Japan," said Rick Jeng, President of Ralink, "these solutions not only provide industry leading performance and range, but also incorporate advanced green technology to reduce power consumption in the wide range of consumer and commercial electronics using Ralink's Wi-Fi. We are committed to providing our customers with environmentally friendly solutions, without compromising the end user's experience."

Ralink's Green technology initiatives are a culmination of techniques implemented in our chipsets to save energy. The new RT3071/RT3072 802.11n USB Client solutions incorporate Wi-Fi Adaptive Performance Technology. This technique allows Ralink Wi-Fi chipsets to adapt to the user's performance needs. During times of intense data transfers, the chipset will put itself into the full 1x2 or 2x2 MIMO configuration for maximum throughput.

Ralink's new RT3050/RT3052 Single Chip 802.11n Router solutions support Wi-Fi Multimedia Power Save, a technique by which data transactions are made at regularly scheduled intervals, instead of instantaneously. This technique allows for longer, regular Wi-Fi sleep periods which add up to greater power savings.

Ralink's PC and Notebook client devices such as the RT3090 supports Wake on Wireless LAN. This technology enables the PC or Notebook to go into a deep sleep mode to save power when there is no activity. A magic packet sent by a router or peer can be detected by the Ralink Wi-Fi chipset, which then sends a signal to "wake up" the rest of the PC.

The new 2016-sized TCXO belongs to the world's smallest category of packages

Epson Toyocom Corporation has announced the development of a new, smaller, frequency-stable TCXO with frequency stability high enough even for demanding GPS applications. The new oscillator, the TG-5025BA, is housed in a 2016-sized package, putting it in the world's smallest category of packages.

Epson Toyocom is already keeping pace with these GPS market trends with the TG-5005CG, a TCXO equipped with a photo AT chip. However, while the TG-5005CG offers high stability (0.5 x 10-6) in a 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm package, the market is already looking toward even smaller sizes. Epson Toyocom is on target to meet the more stringent size requirements with the commercial development of the TG-5025BA, a 2016-class TCXO that offers outstanding frequency stability despite being in the world's smallest package category.

The TG-5025BA is equipped with a photo AT chip, a very small, crystal chip microfabricated using Epson Toyocom's unique QMEMS technology. In addition to minimal variability of characteristics, the new oscillator promises high reliability thanks to the use of internal wire bonding and Epson Toyocom's original NPO structure. This structure reduces the susceptibility of frequency to changes in ambient temperature. Epson Toyocom's IC design technology brings additional advantages to the TG-5025BA, including precise temperature compensation, low power consumption since driving is performed at voltages as low as 1.68 V, and a wide output frequency range (13-52 MHz).

The TG-5025BA boasts a 36% smaller footprint and a 43% smaller cubic volume than its predecessor (2520 TCXO product). Despite its size, however, it has a frequency-temperature coefficient of 0.5 x 10-6, a rating equivalent to that of a TCXO in a conventional package size. To top it all off, the TG-5025BA is stingy when it comes to power consumption, using some 30% less power than its predecessor.

Epson Toyocom Develops Switchable Output Frequency Transmission Module

Epson Toyocom Corporation (Epson Toyocom), the leader in crystal devices, has developed a new transmission module called the ET-2000CB that offers two switchable output frequencies and a footprint of just 5.0 x 3.2mm. The small size and frequency options will help communications equipment manufacturers to reduce the size of their equipment and shorten their development lead-times for a variety of applications in markets that use short-range wireless and specified low power radio bands. Commercial development is scheduled for the first half of fiscal 2009.

The ET-2000CB is a versatile transmission module for near-field communications that supports both short-range wireless and specified low power radio. In a single package, this module integrates a crystal SAW resonator with an outstanding frequency-temperature coefficient enabled by Epson Toyocom's original technology, an oscillation circuit, and an amp circuit. The ET-2000CB eliminates the need for communications equipment manufacturers to design their own transmitter oscillation and amp circuits. It has built-in frequency regulation and output level regulation functions that enable the circuitry to be tuned to customers' systems. Since this relieves communications equipment manufacturers of the need to tune system circuitry themselves, they save valuable time in designing RF circuits that include difficult-to-tune oscillation circuits.

Among its functions, the module offers output in two different frequencies. Communications system malfunctions triggered by interference waves in adjacent frequencies can be avoided by selectively switching between oscillation frequencies. Epson Toyocom uses its high-density packaging technology to integrate these functions into a compact 5.0 x 3.2mm module, thus reducing the number of external parts and downsizing the transmitter (Fig. 1).

GHz-Band, High-Stability SAW Oscillators with Low Phase Noise and Low Jitter

Epson Toyocom Corporation, the leader in crystal devices, has developed two new models of low phase-noise, low-jitter SAW oscillators that output GHz band (800 MHz - 2.5 GHz) frequencies at the fundamental. Commercial development is scheduled for the first half of fiscal 2009.

The newly developed oscillators are the single-output EG-9000GC and the voltage-controlled EV-9000GB. The low phase noise , low jitter and excellent frequency-temperature coefficient characteristics of these oscillators is achieved by the built-in NS-34R crystal oscillating element. The NS-34R boasts a high Q value , low insertion loss, high power durability, and an outstanding frequency-temperature coefficient, in addition to Epson Toyocom's unique high-frequency circuit technology.

Phase noise is mitigated in the low offset frequency range (roughly 500 kHz up to 1.5 MHz) by taking advantage of the high Q value of the NS-34R. Phase noise is mitigated in the high offset frequency range (from roughly 500 kHz to 1.5 MHz or more) by taking advantage of the NS-34R's high-power durability characteristics to raise the level of signals in the oscillation loop. The oscillators boast an extremely stable frequency-temperature coefficient that is 1/5 that of a conventional dielectric resonator oscillator and 1/3 that of an oscillator employing an STW crystal.

The EG9000GC and EV-9000GB will help provide performance gains in applications that require high frequencies and a highly stable clock (one with low phase noise, low jitter, and an excellent frequency-temperature coefficient). Communications and measurement applications will be particular beneficiaries. These oscillators are expected to contribute to the discovery of new technologies and the development of new products in applied microwave technology markets.
